14 students and two staff from the adventure sports and sport department spent an excellent week skiing and snowboarding at the resort of Pila in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
Conditions at the start of the week were typically spring like, with warm temperatures, soft pistes and poor visibility providing a challenge.
However, as the week progressed, the weather improved and by Wednesday, blue skies and even milder temperatures made catching a few rays at lunchtime a favourite way to take a break from the slopes.
Interski, our tour operator provided a varied Après Ski programme which included a visit to a traditional pizzeria, ten pin bowling and ice-skating, all of which added an extra dimension to the students’ experience of life in the Italian Alps.
Highlights of the tour included a day at the fantastic resort of Courmayeur at the foot of Mont Blanc, amazing views of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, fresh powder snow on the last day and two of our students being considered for Interski’s scholarship programme!
By the end of the week, all the students had made significant improvements to their skiing and snowboarding, with many achieving their 5 Star Award.
As ever, the study tour would not have taken place without the support of colleagues in the department, but particular thanks goes to Sharon Johnstone for her tireless work in completing the administration required to run the tour.
All in all the 2016 Skiing and Snowboarding Study Tour was a another success for the Sports Department, with plans already under way for 2017!
