GB development - Darren Smith

Level 2 Bricklayers support new campus development

Our Level 2 Diploma in bricklaying students are gaining fantastic work experience by helping to build internal dividing walls for our new Foundation learning centre. The students were invited on site by Steve Petrie, Project Manager for GB Building Solutions, the company leading on both this development and on our £8.5million national centre for Food Futures and the Environment.

Eager to use their newly learned skills, our students made good progress under the watchful eye of Instructor Danny Collins and Programme Leader Andy Gould and are looking forward to next Friday when they will be on site again!

Plasterers GB Group site visit - Project Wren

Plastering students Project Wren site visit

Plasterers Project Wren site visit

Our Level 2 plastering students recently visited the Project Wren site (National Centre for Food Futures and the Environment), managed by GB Group.

Students had the opportunity to see the initial stages of building development at the site. Steve Peatrie, GB Group, gave all the students site plans and asked them to try to compare the paper plans with the pegs marking out the footprint of what will become our National Centre for Food Futures and the Environment.

This gave the students an excellent insight into the preliminary stages of project development – something as plasterers, they would not normally have the opportunity to experience.

As Project Wren progresses, students will be given further opportunities to visit and work on the site. Our plasterers will board and skim one of the rooms, providing brilliant work experience and a great chance to contribute to the building developments at the College. This experience is almost unique to Reaseheath College, especially for full-time students.
