Level 2 joiners were recently asked to help with some maintenance at Tarporley CE Primary School. They were asked to help with the maintenance of two doors, the door frames and a sandstone building that is used in the school ground.

The construction students were delighted to meet with Peter Howell, the site maintenance manager to get a view of the project and take some measurements, the students then created a materials list and a quote.

A price was agreed for the materials and they have been delivered to college this week. The bench joiners have now produced a working drawing so that they can manufacture the doors and frames. Once the risk assessment and method statement are complete the site joiners will take them to the school to complete the work.

Throughout the project our students have conducted themselves in a very professional manner and they were made to feel very welcome by the school.

If you want to study a course with great opportunities come and talk to the Construction staff at our next Course Open Event.

GB development - Darren Smith

Level 2 Bricklayers support new campus development

Our Level 2 Diploma in bricklaying students are gaining fantastic work experience by helping to build internal dividing walls for our new Foundation learning centre. The students were invited on site by Steve Petrie, Project Manager for GB Building Solutions, the company leading on both this development and on our £8.5million national centre for Food Futures and the Environment.

Eager to use their newly learned skills, our students made good progress under the watchful eye of Instructor Danny Collins and Programme Leader Andy Gould and are looking forward to next Friday when they will be on site again!

Joining GB Projects Together for Student Visits

By The GB Group

GB are currently on site at Reaseheath College in Cheshire and are working with the College to maximise opportunities for the students.

GB GroupFor two consecutive Fridays we arranged for students from Reaseheath to visit our other project in Cheshire, Kings Leadership Academy. The first visit consisted of students studying Level 2 Diploma Bricklaying and the second visit were Level 1 Diploma Carpentry and Joinery.

The students were given a overview of the project, shown drawings and then taken out on site for a full tour. The students found it very interesting and provided quotes below.

GB Group 1Connor Ayres – Level 2 Diploma Bricklaying said “I really enjoyed the day at site, it was good to see what it is actually like on a real building site. I appreciated your time and for showing us around. I hope it is goes to schedule and thank your for the gloves they are great. Everybody had a good time and I hope we can come again”

Tyler Young – Level 1 Diploma Carpentry and Joinery said “It was good to see a big site and how it works. The talk was good and we got to see what sort of joinery jobs would be being done later in the job. I hope that we can see more of the sites, to have one on the college is brilliant as we can go down when we want”
