Reaseheath College and the Student Association (SA) have been invited to attend and assist steward the traditional celebration of Holly Holy Day. This will be taking place in Nantwich on Saturday 24th January 2015.
The SA have supported this event for over 5 years and in return for their support this year they will receive a £150 donation towards this year’s RAG charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
This annual event commemorates the Battle of Nantwich in January 1644, and the lifting of a 6 week siege of the town during the Civil War.
As always soldiers from the Sealed Knot, dressed and equipped in authentic civil war attire, will parade down Welsh Row and into the town centre. Here they will parade outside St Mary’s Church in the main square, and wreaths will be laid in honour of those who fell in the battle.
There will also be a lively re-enactment of the battle by Sealed Knot members on Mill Island, adjacent to the town centre. This is usually a thrilling and popular spectacle, with cannon fire as well as hand to hand ‘fighting’!
Several members of the SA will be willingly helping out at this historic local event and you could too! Contact Rob Sparkes, Astra Drakeley or Jared Erskine (Student Services) for more information on how to get involved.
