Champion experience for motor vehicle students

IMI Level 2 Motor Vehicle students recently had the opportunity to attend the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Oulton Park.

Held on Saturday June 6, students were invited  to the event as guests of Honda UK and SnapOn Tools, forming part of their ‘Excellence in Education’ programme.

The full experience of corporate hospitality was laid on for both staff and students. One of the highlights of the day was a garage tour, where students we were all kitted up with pit radios and listened to the drivers live as they went into the qualifying round of the competition.

Students had front row seats watching cars whizz into the pits to swap over to hot tyres and had the chance to chat with the pit crew who gave them an insight into their roles whilst the cars were pushed to the limit out on track. It was an immersive experience and a great look at motorsport careers for the students.

After the qualifying round the students were taken back to the hospitality marquee where they were treated to a full debrief by the team principal took time to talk to the students about how the team started their careers in motorsport. This was followed by a meet and greet with the drivers, Matt Neal and Gordan (Flash) Sheddon. Both drivers were really friendly and more than happy to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

The students really enjoyed the day and now have a better understanding of how being multi-skilled, talented, and hard-working is key to securing a career at the top-end of motorsport.

Thanks to Honda and SnapOn for such a great day out.
